![]() They've got tons of information on different mapping methods and programs. ![]() If you want you could head over to the forums at Each of them have their own difficulties however. I have also used Fractal Mapper to good effect for large scale projects, as well as things like Zbrush, Maya, and the Half-life level editor for various other projects. ![]() I was going to say I've always had better luck with AutoRealm. And I like learning stuff, it just seemed there's enough free software out there to frustrate me that I don't need to pay for it :-)Īutorealm ( ) is the open source version, though I have no idea how good it is. I looked into it, but it seemed the UI was overly difficult. It took me a couple of weeks at an hour a night to get the hang of it. I agree with the posters, though, there is quite a steep learning curve. I use it for world mapping as well as towns, castles, houses and dungeons. I have been using it for a long time now. Like GamerHandle, I gave it a try, but with no more progress than I was able to make in the first few hours, I decided I didn't want self-created maps badly enough. I gave it a shot but the learning curve required is more than I want to invest. Now, if you take the time to watch the numerous tutorial videos - and you follow-along closely the learning curve does fix itself drastically. To be fair though, I only gave it a few hours before frustration caused me to throw my computer. For me it was difficult to produce anything beyond hitting their randomizer feature and plopping down icons. Well, I bought this software, and I have Z E R O computer savvy. Re: ProFantasy Software's Campaign Cartographer 3 So if any of you can share your experiences with it, that would be very helpful in guiding my purchasing decision. This software looks like it produces good quality maps, but if I can't use it effectively/it's too difficult to learn, it won't really be a worthwhile investment. I've been looking for a good tool for a while, but earlier map making software has seemed too complicated and (seemingly) had too low production value to justify the investment. I've gotten to the point where I'd really like to be able to build my own campaign maps. If those kinds of skills are needed to effectively use this software, it's not going to work for me. I am a horrible artist, and I'm not particularly computer savvy, so any kind of programming, Photoshopping, etc. I'm especially interested in how user-friendly it is.
